I am so excited to for this free pattern that I am releasing today. It is a part of an amazing fall blog hop that is being hosted by the very talented E’Claire Makery. This blog hop features a new free pattern everyday from different designers with the pdf version of the pattern also being available for free each day. And today is my day! My pattern is a super soft and luxurious cowl that you will never want to take off!
This is a free pattern here on my blog but if you would like the ad-free pdf you can purchase it on Ravelry by clicking the button below. And be sure to save it to your pinterest boards so you can find it again later!
This cowl is made with Red Heart Hygge and Lion Brand’s Faux fur yarn which creates the softest thing I’ve ever felt in my life. It hasn’t gotten to cold here yet so I have not had a chance to test it out in the cold weather but I’m sure it is definitely going to do the job of keeping your neck super warm! I’m even thinking about wearing it this winter to go snowboarding.

About the Pattern
This pattern is fairly simple as it does not have any increases or decreases and has a 5 row decrease, however when working with go for faux yarn it can sometimes be hard to see your stitches. One way to get through this is to make sure you are counting as you go and feeling the stitches instead of looking for the stitches. I include the total number of stitches at the end of each row in parenthesis. The beginning chain of each row does NOT count as a stitch.
At the beginning of each row I will indicate wheather you should be using the Hygge (weight 5) of the Faux Fur Yarn.
This pattern will use hdc in the back loop. This means that instead of inserting your hook through both top loops, you insert it in the loop furthest away from you, which is the back loop.
This patterns also uses hdc in the third loop. The third loop is the loop below the front and back loops of the hdc. (see pic) And if you still need help with this here is a an instructional video on Youtube by Heart Hook Home. If it does not say in the third loop, in that row you just do regular half double crochets.
Every time I switch yarns, I cut my yarn and at the end I weave all the ends in. This can be more tedious, but I feel it gives it a more finished look because if it fold down on itself you won’t be able to see all the places where you carried your yarn on the inside.
With the go for Faux Yarn Ch 60. Sl st to the forst chain to join.
Row 1: Switch to the Hygge (or your other weight 5) yarn. Ch 2. Hdc in each ch. Sl st to first hdc to join. (60 hdc)
Row 2: Continuing with the Hygge. Ch 2. Hdc in the third loop in each stitch around. Sl st to first hdc to join. (60 hdc)
Row 3: Hygge. Ch 2. Hdc in each stitch. Sl st to first hdc to join. (60 hdc)
Row 4: Hygge. Ch 2. Hdc in each stitch in the third loop. Sl st to first hdc to join. (60 hdc)
Row 5: Switch to Faux Fur. Ch 2. Sc in each stitch around. Sl st to first sc to join. ( 60 sc)
Row 6: Switch back to the Hygge. Ch 2. Hdc in each stitch in the back loop only. Sl st to first hdc to join. (60 hdc)
Row 7: Hygge. Ch 2. Hdc in the third loop in each stitch around. Sl st to first hdc to join. (60 hdc)
Row 8: Hygge. Ch 2. Hdc in each stitch. Sl st to first hdc to join. (60 hdc)
Row 9: Hygge. Ch 2. Hdc in each stitch in the third loop. Sl st to first hdc to join. (60 hdc)
Row 10: Switch to Faux Fur. Ch 2. Sc in each stitch around. Sl st to first sc to join. (60 sc)
Row 11-25 Repeat rows 6-10 three more times. (15 total rows)
Fasten off and weave in ends. This will give you a finished cowl of about 10 inches in height. If you would like it longer you can continue repeating rows 6-10. Or you can make it shorter by doing less repeats of rows 6-10.
